2 Ways to Resurrect Your Chiropractic PowerPoint Presentations

In today’s health care arena, educating the public, prospect and patient on the benefits of chiropractic care is an absolute must. If you’re not actively involved in the process, you’re committing practice suicide.

Fortunately, technology gives chiropractors many options beyond the simple dry erase board. One of those options is PowerPoint.

Obviously, if you run Windows, Microsoft has your product. However, if you’re on a Mac, Apple’s Keynote software is unmatched.

Even though this post isn’t a review of the aforementioned products, suffice it to say that Keynote has the upper hand when producing simple, elegant and visually-stunning presentations right out of the box.

If you don’t believe me, just watch the most recent WWDC Keynote Address by Apple’s Senior Vice President, Philip Schiller, using, you guessed it, Apple’s Keynote software.

To make things even more exciting, you can present your Keynote presentation from an iPhone with Apple’s Keynote app. I can attest, it works marvelously.

Nevertheless, it really doesn’t matter if you use a PC or Mac. Your main objective should be to build an arsenal of presentations covering various topics.

For example, your arsenal should consist of presentations that meet the wants and desires of your target audience:

  • For the local tennis club, how about creating a presentation on how chiropractic can improve their tennis game.
  • For new patients, why not develop a simple but powerful presentation that supports their decision to start care.
  • For the committed patients, consider a well-polished presentation for their patient orientation class.
  • And, for the general public, a presentation on the cost-effectiveness of chiropractic compared to the medical approach.

Whatever your angle, make sure you present it professionally. As chiropractors, we typically only get one shot in front of people to relay our message. If you screw it up by being unprofessional, you’ll not only squander the opportunity but also miss the chance of changing lives through the incredible healing power of chiropractic!

If you simply have no clue on how to design your presentations or, for that matter, give presentations, then you need to study Garr Reynolds’ presentation tips.

Also, watch Death by PowerPoint:

However, if you have a solid grasp on presentations, then let’s look at two ways you can resurrect your chiropractic PowerPoint presentations by taking them online AND making them available 24/7/365.

Number One: Use SlideBoom

As their web site states:

SlideBoom is an online service to share your ideas and presentations with anyone. Spread your knowledge everywhere!

With SlideBoom you can:

  • Insert your presentations into your blog and web site.
  • Share your presentations with your colleagues, friends, and family.
  • Discover creative slideshows and presentations from other SlideBoom users.
  • Find people with the same interests and meet new friends.
  • Tag, rank and comment!

And, the best part is it’s FREE. Yes, they do offer a paid Pro account, but when you look at what is available through the free account, I think you’ll agree that it’ll meet your needs.

Number Two: Use Slideshare

According to them:

SlideShare is the world’s largest community for sharing presentations.

  • Individuals & organizations upload presentations to share their ideas, connect with others, and generate leads for their businesses.
  • Anyone can find presentations on topics that interest them. They can tag, download, or embed presentations into their own blogs & websites.

SlideShare is the best way to get your slides out there on the web, so your ideas can be found and shared by a wide audience. Do you want to get the word out about your product or service? Do you want your slides to reach people who could not make it to your talk? Are you a teacher looking to share your lesson plans? It only takes a moment – start uploading now, and let your slides do the talking!

Some of the things you can do on SlideShare:

  • Embed slideshows into your own blog or website.
  • Share slideshows publicly or privately. There are several ways to share privately.
  • Synch audio to your slides.
  • Market your own event on slideshare.
  • Join groups to connect with SlideShare members who share your interests.
  • Download the original file

Slideshare is also now available via your mobile phone. Just go to m.slideshare.com on your mobile phone to browse the latest slide presentations.

From day one, my choice has been SlideShare. Their service is exceptional and provides everything I need to quickly share my ideas online, in a blog post or via social media networks like Linkedin and Facebook.

If you want the advantage within your community and the ability to effortlessly communicate your message, then you need to seriously look at either one of the above mentioned services. Go back through your old PowerPoint presentations, spice them up, upload them and start sharing them with the world.

As this presentation demonstrates, Slideshare is Everywhere!

  1. I must say I read this and am very excited. The only thing is I am not very good with computers. I have not been giving any inside office talks or outside. I want to start now as my practice is as slow as it has ever been in 25 years. I am trying to learn new things but find that I am not understanding the new tech stuff. Please help me where do I start. I want to do a good health/dinner talk, and know I need to do outside talks. I am very interested in search engine optimization and gaining patients from the internet. Any help please contact me with suggestions and a plan of where to start. My website is not helping me and I can’t seem to get it up to the first page. My wife and I are starting to learn to blog and I want to ad video to my website. Thanks, I look forward to hearing from you. Dr. Dan

  2. Dr. Patrick MacNamara says:

Dr. Anderson :: Thanks for stopping by! Also, I’m glad to hear that the information you’ve read was beneficial.

My main suggestion regarding your online presence is to concentrate on blogging. I looked at your website and even though it appears professional, it doesn’t provide anything that would stimulate a visitor to come back. In other words, it’s your traditional brochure-like website.

If you plan on using the internet to attract quality patients, then you definitely need to focus on building a blog. It should be the hub of all of your online activities. My recommendation is to read A Busy Chiropractor’s Guide to Starting a Chiropractic Blog. It should give you a good foundation to start the process.
