How to Setup a Blog for Your Chiropractic Practice

by Dr. Patrick MacNamara on April 10, 2009 · 18 comments

Now that you understand the basic concept of blogging and its importance to growing your practice, let’s take a closer look at how to setup a blog.

Before we do so, however, let me preface this post by saying that some of the topics covered from this point forward may be elementary for some of you. Nevertheless, it is my intention to introduce the concepts to lay a firm foundation for the beginner before diving into deeper and more advanced material.

To kick things off, there are many platforms to choose from. Furthermore, I’m sure if you’ve done a little research, you’ve stumbled upon both Google’s Blogger platform and the most successful open-source platform, WordPress.

One thing you’ll readily notice is that the majority of blogging platforms are free. This is true of both Blogger and WordPress as well. All you need to do is open an account and activate your blog.

Once activated, you’ll be given an URL or web link for your blog so that users know where to locate you on the internet. The URL typically looks like the following:

yourblogname.blogspot.com OR yourblogname.wordpress.com

However, the best approach to starting and creating a business blog is to purchase your own domain name and self-host the blog on a web hosting’s server. The reason for this is so that you can retain complete ownership of the blog, domain name and brand that you plan on building.

Before you dive right in, I suggest that you do some research on which platform will work best for you.

I, personally, prefer WordPress over any other platform because of its simplicity of use, efficiency of design within a content management system and community support from developers around the world.

Coming up next, we’ll focus on how to register a domain name and what company we recommend to do so.

If you’d prefer someone else to setup your blog, check out DevelopingOthers.com. They provide everything you need to get online quickly so that you can start building your presence online.

Great blog you have helping other fellow chiropractors market their services and understanding the potential of the internet. As a blogging chiropractor myself I have seen the value of interacting with the community online and wish that more chiropractors would do the same.
