Form a Tribe for Your Chiropractic Practice the Seth Godin Way

by Dr. Patrick MacNamara on May 13, 2009 · 3 comments

post23_tribesTribes is the newest book by marketing genius, Seth Godin. Its premise deploys the idea that people need a leader and that leader is you.

According to an editorial review by Publishers Weekly, “Godin argues that lasting and substantive change can be best effected by a tribe: a group of people connected to each other, to a leader and to an idea. Smart innovators find or assemble a movement of similarly minded individuals and get the tribe excited by a new product, service or message, often via the Internet.”

An incredible way to run with this idea is by building your blog. There simply isn’t a better way to connect with patients, prospects and your community.

Remember, a blog should be the central hub around all of your online communications. Social media platforms like Twitter are simply tools to drive people to your blog.

Then, if you provide valuable content that meets your visitors wants and desires, you’ll develop a passionate following. Or, as Seth Godin defines it, your very own tribe.

Another point to consider is that you are the CEO of your practice. I trust you understand and truly appreciate that statement. If not, allow me to briefly elaborate.

The leadership role you’ve selected, regardless if you acknowledge it or not, requires tremendous insight, vision and planning. Your patients, both present and future, depend on you to lead them. Therefore, you should run your practice as if you’re accountable to stockholders but sensitive and cognizant to customers’ needs.

To drive home Mr. Godin’s point, watch as he delivers this presentation on why tribes, not money or factories, will change the world.

I agree with the statement of a blog being a central hub. Blogs are so valuable in the sense that they give us the ability to be an online authority on our topic of choice. If doctors have a practice and don’t utilize a blog, chances are their patients are getting their information from someone else. Nice job!

Thanks for the input, Dr. Harshe. I truly appreciate your input and the time you’ve taken to comment on several posts.

It is evident that you understand the importance of blogging and I commend you for hosting your own even before you graduate from chiropractic school. You will see tremendous benefits from it.

Take care!
