Why I added @NextGenChiro as Another Twitter Account

by Dr. Patrick MacNamara on June 8, 2009 · 0 comments

twitter_ngc_post_image_2Over the weekend, I signed up for another Twitter account, @NextGenChiro. Many of you direct messaged me asking what happened to @DigitalChiro. So, instead of trying to explain my reasons within 140 characters, I decided to write a post about it.

For starters, nothing happened to @DigitalChiro. It is doing just fine and isn’t going anywhere. It has a distinct purpose, is growing at a healthy rate and will remain one of my most active accounts.

To find out where it’s heading, remain a follower. I’ll be unveiling some very cool and exciting things within the near future that will truly benefit your chiropractic practice. So, stay tuned!

Another Twitter account I use is @RoadCyclingBlog. It was opened in May of 2008 for, you guessed it, my cycling blog, RoadCyclingBlog.com.

For those of you that don’t know, road cycling is another passion of mine. So, I started RoadCyclingBlog.com to write about whatever came to mind regarding the sport.

I’m not real active on that blog because there’s no strategy or goal — it’s just a hobby blog. It was birthed simply for the love of the sport and to connect with other cyclists, both amateur and professional.

I also use @Dr_MacNamara. This is my private personal Twitter account. In other words, it is unaccessible to the general public and only available for my immediate family. It’s a great way to privately communicate with them regarding personal matters, travels and life in general.

FYI — everyone needs their privacy so if you request to follow this account, you’ll be denied. ;-)

“Okay”, you may ask, “since you already have three Twitter accounts, why on earth would you need a fourth?”

It’s simple, really.

After reading the above, you’ll realize that each account has a specific purpose.

My new account, @NextGenChiro, will be laser-focused on serving and communicating with you, my blog readers. Since it more accurately reflects the name of this blog, it’ll be easier to remember, brand and find.

To kick things off, I reviewed my email list, RSS list and @DigitalChiro list.

I then visited Tweepz and searched for chiropractic and chiropractor. Using their search results, I manually added 100 new chiropractors Saturday evening and 100 new chiropractors Sunday evening. I’ll continue this until both my lists and Tweepz’s list runs out.

Twitter Tip – When adding people to a new account, don’t go crazy. If you add too many too soon, Twitter will suspend your account for suspicious behavior.

Even though my followers will grow, I’ll only follow chiropractors and those related to the chiropractic profession through this account. My goal is to streamline the communication channels and cut down on the noise within my timeline.

Since I haven’t found an automatic service or application that’ll do this for me, I’ll continue this routine. It’s the only way I know to guarantee an accurate and specific list. If you know of a trustworthy service that’ll accomplish the aforementioned, please let me know. I’d love to take a look at it.

So, now that @NextGenChiro is live and kickin’, why not head on over to Twitter and add it to your list. I’d be much obliged and promise to only tweet relevant and valuable information!

Unlike this humorous take on Twitter … :-)
