After months of waiting and speculation, Apple has officially unveiled the iPad 2 at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco today.
Here’s a breakdown of what it features:
- iOS 4.3
- An all new A5 chip with dual-core processors
- 2x faster CPU
- 9x faster graphics card
- Dual cameras that shoot 720p at up to 30fps on the rear and VGA stills on the front-facing camera
- 33% thinner body than the original iPad (it’s actually thinner than the iPhone 4!)
- Weights only 1.3 pounds
- Built-in gyroscope
- Same 10-hour battery life as the original iPad (but that’s impressive!)
- New apps optimized specifically for the iPad
- It comes in two colors, black and white
- And, will be available March 11th
I didn’t purchase the first-generation iPad. I know that probably shocks many of you considering my passion for Apple products. But I wanted to wait until they refined the product, added cameras, and beefed up its processor.
With today’s announcement, I’ve added the iPad 2 to my “must buy” list. It’ll be a welcomed edition to my other heavily-used Apple products.
If you haven’t seen this already, here’s a great video featuring all of its new features and benefits:
Question: Will you be getting one?

P.Mac,
Like you, I have been a hold-out, waiting for perfection, holding onto my hard-earned cash. Well, with the iPad2, they have achieved perfection – at least until it becomes obsolete. I has the faster chip that is necessary for my multi-tasking life, cameras for vid-conferencing. I will be ordering the Zagg bluetooth keyboard cover for mine, because I am dependent on a keyboard for true productivity. But, it is time. This thing, like ALL Mac products, is truly a work of art. I was waiting to see whether any of the tablet alternatives were going to surpass its capabilities for le$$, but they aren’t even close. I’m sold. And – thanks so much for a GREAT site!! Russ
I agree, Russ. The iPad 2 was worth the wait. I’m enjoying it so much that I’ve decided to learn how to build apps for it. I think my time invested will eventually pay off — especially since some analysts predict the iOS app market being strong through 2015. Only time will tell.
Regardless, I appreciate your kind words and am glad that you’re enjoying the site. Keep in touch!
