Eyejot Allows Chiropractors to Send Video eMail Without Using Tokbox

Yesterday TokBox announced that their highly utilized video messaging functionality would be removed from their provided services beginning mid-July. As stated by TokBox, what this means is that you will no longer be able to record a video message and send it to multiple people.

At first this made no sense to me since TokBox was founded upon making video communications easier for people through the tools they commonly use — like email.

But upon further investigation, it appears their mission has shifted to become an industry leader in video conferencing and virtual meeting services instead of more antiquated technology like email.

In all honesty, this makes total sense considering how fast video technology is evolving. Take the new iPhone 4 as an example. Instead of just calling someone — oh, that was so 2009 — you can now Facetime them!

So, whether you’re interested in keeping in touch with loved ones or needing the power of video to convey your chiropractic message to patients through email, you’ll need a different way of clearing this hurdle besides TokBox.

Fortunately, video email services are a dime a dozen. However, the majority of them cost a substantial amount of money because of all the bells and whistles that are offered through their services.

So, if you’re looking for more robust services, then I recommend the following three companies:

1. Brightcove
2. CoVideo
3. OpenMyVideo

But let’s say you’re just looking for a simple solution that won’t break the bank.

Enter Eyejot.

What is Eyejot?

As their website states, Eyejot is the first, comprehensive, client-free online video messaging platform ideal for both personal and business communications. It offers everyone the ability to create and receive video messages in a self-contained, spam-free environment. With no client to install, you can start using Eyejot immediately with any browser, on any platform. It even features built-in support for iTunes™ (and iPods™), mobile devices and social networks like MySpace™.

Why Eyejot?

Again from their website, Eyejot offers people the ability to easily communicate more naturally with one another through video while still taking advantage of some of the great traits that email offers in terms of working across geographies and time zones, and eliminating spam from the equation.

Ever have someone interpret your email differently from the way you had intended? Without facial expressions and gestures that happens often. With Eyejot, your friends, family and business contacts won’t have any trouble whatsoever understanding what you mean. They’ll be able to see your energy, passion, concern, interest, excitement, humor – you name it. They’ll see and hear it.

Signing Up & Getting Started is a Snap!

Eyejot’s signup page is straightforward and easy to use. After filling in a few fields, you’ll be directed to the “Settings” page where you can configure the camera and microphone. You’ll then be directed into the main recording pane which looks similar to a standard email client’s inbox.

My only gripe with Eyejot is they’re extremely stingy with their maximum recording duration. For example, TokBox allowed ten minutes of free recording time whereas Eyejot only allows 60 seconds. So, unless you upgrade to their Pro or Pro Plus account, be ready to deliver your message in commercial style — fast and to the point.

If you decide to go Pro via their $29.95 per year subscription fee, Eyejot is a good replacement for TokBox when all you are looking for is an efficient and effective way to send video emails.

In closing, I realize that the majority of my readers are Windows users. But, if you want an even simpler method without using a third-party provider, I recommend using Photo Booth which is freely installed on all Macs running OS X.

Just fire it up, record your video without any time limitations, click on the “email” icon located to the left just below the video pane, and send to as many email recipients you designate. It’s that simple and intuitive.

Question: What other services do you use for video email? Is there one comparable to Photo Booth within the Windows environment?

If so, let’s us know in the {comments} section below.

Thanks for writing about Eyejot. Good news – we’re about to release our native iPhone app and plan, as well, to significantly enhance our resources this summer and increase recording durations for all account types.

    • You’re welcome! I’m just thankful that there’s another alternative since TokBox is giving up this feature.

And, an iPhone app only makes sense. Especially with the new iPhone 4 video recording capabilities. Adding that to Eyejot would be sweet!

RE: account types, I look forward to seeing what will be available.

Thanks for stopping by the site!

  2. I’ve used eyejot for some time now & love how simple the service is to use. I have 2 suggestions.
Eyejot needs to jazz up the video emails like talk fusion.

It would also be nice if we had same service but with voice only, for days when you don’t feel like getting dressed up to look your best on camera, but still want something more than text.

Just my humble opinion on video email, eyejot is great, works perfect, but a bit on the boring side when it comes to templates & such.

That being said, I would highly recommend eyejot to everyone.

    • Thanks for your comment, Tony. And, make sure you check out the first comment to this post. The founder and owner of Eyejot promises significant enhancements to their product and services this summer. So, stay tuned!

  3. I look forward to them. Do you have any idea whats coming? I know of 2 other company’s that are really trying to market video. The first is Talk Fusion & the other is My Video Talk. Of course they are attached to a business opportunity & are a bit expensive to join, but the quality and features are quite good. Great, snazzy templates, (did I just say snazzy? LOL). They have HD quality, broadcast features ect. Check them out & see what I mean. i would just love to see eyejot really step up it’s game. Again eyejot is a wonderful company with great service.

I’m not sure bells and whistles are as important as simplicity and ease of use. mailVU.com offers a completely free, no account service that rivals what Tokbox used to provide.
