Online advertisers use a wide variety of schemes to drive people to their websites.

For beginners, you have options like press releases, article directories, link-sharing, and other content-driven distribution services to help boost your online profile.

For advertisers above that level, such as business owners and super affiliates, social media exposes itself as the premier way to not only advertise to a targeted audience, but also to interact – to maintain a social presence within the framework of your market.

Facebook is unlike any other social networking site out there. Over 100 million unique users every month in the United States along makes Facebook the ideal marketplace for any and all businesspeople wanting to get their message out there. Of course, one must approach marketing on Facebook the correct way.

There is a huge risk assumed by online advertisers, the biggest of which is being seen as a spammer. You could also look unprofessional and damage your brand in multiple ways.

As Hunter S. Thompson so eloquently put it, “If a thing’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right.” So before you use your knowledge to market on Facebook, take a few minutes to learn the motions.

A Step-by-Step Guide to Facebook Advertising

Step 1: Start by Creating a Goal

Facebook’s brilliance is in its simplicity of structure that is ironically a complicated conclave of features such as an ability to choose which groups you want to market to.

A company deciding to advertise with Facebook was an issue foresaw by its creators, and thus you are able to target a wide range of criteria via your marketing strategy: Location, age, gender, interests, relationship status, etc.

Acting like an Internet within the Internet itself, Facebook is an entire world where keyword-targeted marketing helps companies identify who sees the ads. This is where the identification process helps you.

Creating compelling ads requires nothing more than an accurate audience. For instance: If you’re advertising basketball equipment, you would obviously target a certain age range whose interests include B-ball and who use different B-ball-related keywords.

If that seems like an oversimplification of how to target a market, thank the people behind Facebook for making it so easy.

Step 2: Choosing the Right Tool

A person attempting to build a home would be hard-pressed to get it all done with a hammer. You’d also need a saw, a level, a tape measure, and many other tools.

This is the approach Facebook advertisers need to take. Blunt ad instruments aren’t enough. Today’s hottest trend is an all-in-one Facebook ad tool. Take Qwaya for example.

Qwaya is a very powerful Facebook ad creation and management tool with a streamlined interface, a feature-rich format, and a slew of customizable controls. You can run an entire ad campaign from inception to fruition with a tool such as this.

You begin your initial campaign, create the ad, hone in on your targeted market, release the ads, monitor your results, and from there you can tweak any ads or redirect your approach.

If you could liken advertising on Facebook to running a political campaign, Qwaya would be your entire staff, from consultants and pollsters to a manager. It’s not only a time and money-saver; it’s practically the only efficient way to advertise via social networking if you truly expect results.

Step 3: Staying on Top of the Campaign

Truthfully, prior to a tool like Qwaya, this guide would have contained 10 steps.

You would have learned about making your ads stand out in a crowd, tracking your results, testing every little aspect of your campaign, defining your cost structure, outsourcing work, and more. But with a comprehensive Facebook ad-management tool, most of what you need to do can be handled through one program.

This means you’re only left to oversee the entire process. You do want to track your progress. But instead of micromanaging the campaign, you only need to track Qwaya’s results and adjust accordingly.

You still want to tweak your ads for effectiveness and make them stand out. But, again, this can all be done through the use of one tool.

Successfully advertising on Facebook is going to require careful observations and adjustments on your part. However, when it comes to monitoring everything from impressions and click-through rates to how well your ads are performing in their respective niche, it can all be handled with one tool.

You may find other ways to advertise with Facebook, but you won’t find anything that’s easier or better designed for the task.

Question: Are you using Facebook to advertise your chiropractic practice? If so, how successful has it been toward driving new patients into your practice?

Leave your thoughts and comments in the {comments} section below.

Google+ is a social network powered by the search engine giant Google. Many see this platform as a challenge to Facebook’s domination of the social media space. With more than 90 million users and a growing influence on search, Google+ has definitely emerged as a key player in the online marketing ecosystem.

Google+ allows businesses to create pages and develop relationships with prospects and customers on multiple levels. Individuals can add a brand to a specific Google+ Circle, share a Google+ page with their network, and interact with the content posted by that company.

The following article is part of the Google+ Library found inside of Club 365. To gain access to the entire library, please consider becoming a member by visiting Club 365.

For instance, users can +1 (or in other words, endorse) the updates a company publishes, leave comments, upload photos, and tag the brand in them. An interesting aspect of this platform is that its Hangouts feature enables companies to engage with fans, prospects, and customers through video conference calls.

Since you are probably eager to get started, let’s take a look at how to set up a Google+ Page for your chiropractic business.

Step 1: Choose an Accessible Gmail Account

If I learned anything from creating my own page, it’s that Google+ pages’ administrative capabilities could use improvement.

Avoid creating your business page through just any old account, such as a personal Gmail account. Instead, choose a Gmail account that is accessible to multiple members of your marketing team (e.g. companymarketingteam@ gmail.com), and use that account to create your page.

Because Google+ pages’ administrative capabilities currently aren’t as sophisticated as say Facebook‘s (which enable you to assign multiple page admins regardless of the page’s origins), you’ll want to choose a host account that makes your page as accessible to multiple contributors as possible.

The ‘Google+ Your Business’ Google+ page has indicated that Google has already started working on multi-admin support and ownership transfer. For now, I recommend making your account as accessible to other team members as possible.

Step 2: Create a page with the Desired Account

Visit http://plus.google.com/pages/create, and if you see the option to create a Google+ page, get started! Follow the wizard (it’s much like Facebook’s page creation wizard), and choose the most appropriate option to classify your business.

You’ll be able to select from the following options:

Local Business or Place

Product or Brand

Company, Institution or Organization

Arts, Entertainment or Sports

Other

Obviously, if this page is being created to represent your chiropractic practice, then select “Local Business or Place”.

After selecting your classification, fill in your basic information, including your page name (i.e. your company name), your business’ website URL, your category (i.e. your industry), and the classification of your page’s content (i.e. any Google+ user, 18 years of age or older, etc.).

Step 3: Customize Your Public Profile

The third step involves customizing your public profile. The profile basics include your tagline (think of it as your business’ elevator pitch) and an image (your company logo is a great option). Keep it concise, yet descriptive.

Step 4: Promote Your page

At this point, you’ve created the skeleton of your page, and Google+ will now prompt you to promote your page. My recommendation is to customize your page even further and start sharing a few updates before you begin telling the world about it.

Promoting a blank page isn’t a great way to convince people that your page is valuable enough to add to their circles. So invest some time into optimizing your page and sharing a few links to valuable content before you start promoting it to the masses.

Step 5: Optimize Further

At the most basic level, this is really all you need to do to get your page launched. But as any smart marketer knows, the ‘basics’ aren’t usually enough. Intelligent marketers understand the importance of optimizing their page to make it not only more engaging, but also more valuable and effective for lead generation. In this step, follow Google+’s prompts to create an effective page, and remember — Google+ is a social network.

Although every social network has its specific nuances and behaviors, many of the same best practices will still apply. Regularly share fresh content, react and respond to your fans, be engaging, and optimize for lead generation. Then measure, adapt your strategy, and optimize your presence based on your own individual results and goals.

While many chiropractors have an account, their profile is often incomplete, making it essentially useless.

You might even say the only thing worse than not having a profile is having an incomplete one. Thus, assuming you already have some form of a LinkedIn profile — if not, go create one — lets complete your profile so you can attain social media greatness.

The following article is part of the LinkedIn Library found inside of Club 365. To gain access to the entire library, please consider becoming a member by visiting Club 365.

Go to the menu bar at the top of any LinkedIn page and select the Profile menu. Drag down to the Edit Profile link.

Now we are ready for the following 8 steps:

1. Include Full Name and Image.

Let’s start with the very first section.

This may sound like a no-brainer, but countless LinkedIn users fail to include their full name and picture.

Display your first and last name to ensure people can find you. Using a first name with a last initial is not sufficient — especially when a prospective patient is trying to locate your profile.

Then, upload an image. Research suggests that profiles without photos are rarely viewed, as they are perceived as profiles not in use.

2. Personalize Your Headline.

Customize your Professional Headline, which will automatically update in the future as your current position.

However, you have the option of altering it to something else, which may be more appealing to prospective patients. Just keep in mind that if a patient were seeking you out on LinkedIn, it would be helpful to include your current position (owner or associate) in the headline.

In general, keep it short and sweet.

3. Add Work History.

Head over to the Experience section.

At the very minimum you should list your most recent positions. Click Add a position, and you will be navigated to a separate page where you can fill out information about that job. If your company appears in the drop down once you start typing, click on it to ensure you get grouped under company searches.

TIP: Avoid adding the various positions you held in the many organizations, clubs, and/or societies at your school (whether you are currently in school or 10 years removed). While these are all great experiences, if you want to tailor your profile to a professional environment, highlight only your professional experience, internships, jobs, etc. LinkedIn was wise enough to know how to weigh the clout of each type of work, by including a section under education to separately list these activities.

4. Customize Your LinkedIn URL.

You’ll want to create a personalized LinkedIn URL.

Still under the Edit Profile page, look at the bottom of your profile. You’ll see a line that says Public Profile with an Edit link next to it.

From there, you’ll be taken to a new screen. Scroll down and to the right of the page you’ll see prompts that show you how to create your customized LinkedIn URL quickly and easily.

5. Customize your Website URLs.

Website URLs are just as important as your customer LinkedIn URL.

Click Edit next to Additional Information. Here you can include your interests, groups and associations, and any honors and awards. Each is self-explanatory.

However, the first section calls for websites. The drop down menu for adding a website lists options such as Personal Website, Company Website, Blog, etc.

I recommend choosing Other regardless of what kind of site it is. This will allow you to insert your own Title, so instead of a hyperlinked word that says Blog, it will be more specific, such as Chiropractic Blog.

6. Ask for Recommendations.

You’ll notice a hyperlink under each position that says, Ask for recommendations.

A recommendation can help to distinguish a traditional position by illustrating how well you performed through a colleagues narrative.

TIP: When requesting a recommendation, do not simply send the generic message LinkedIn creates for you. Include some specific projects you worked on so that your recommender remembers the particular work you did and speak to it. Notice the difference between: Pete was a creative thinker who got the job done, and Pete created and implemented a blogging strategy that helped generate 163 leads in one week’s time.

7. Connect Your Twitter Account with LinkedIn.

Just above the Public Profile link under the first section of your profile (where your name, headline, and image is), you will see a Twitter link. Click Edit to manage your Twitter settings.

Not only should you display your Twitter handle, but you should share tweets as well. Your tweets are one of the only ways to make your profile personable and not focused solely around your professional life. A prospective patient will want to see how you speak and think in addition to the more traditional information available on your resume.

TIP: Select the option to only share tweets that contain a LinkedIn hashtag (#in or #li). This will allow you to filter which tweets appear on your profile. This way, if you tweet about seeing someone walk into a door while drunk, it’ll get buried away in your Twitter stream and you can focus on sharing more professional tweets. Keep in mind that not all LinkedIn users are updating their accounts as often as Twitter users, so having a filter can avoid spamming your connections.

8. Grow Your Network.

You now have enough information on your profile to start growing your network! Just go to the upper right hand side of the menu bar and click on the link that says People in it. Drag down to Groups. Then type in a subject you’re interested in (e.g., marketing, sales, real estate, etc.).

You’ll notice that when you do a search, LinkedIn provides suggestions not only on Groups but also in several other categories such as Connections, Companies, Features and Skills.

Don’t be shy about reaching out to organizations or people on LinkedIn. That’s what it’s for. But avoid doing a bunch of outreach all at once because people will pick up on the spammy nature of it. Just pretend you’re at a party and reach out to people one at a time. That way, you’ll come across as more genuine and sincere.
