The Future of Screen Technology

For those that know me well, following future trends in technology are not only a hobby of mine but also a passion. From Apple’s iPhone to PHP, I attempt to stay current with what’s happening right now as well as what’s coming down the pike.

Screen technology is no exception. Ever since Apple unveiled its first generation of iPhones, I’ve been fascinated with touch screen technology and its capabilities.

It was during that time that I also realized that their innovation would take computing to an entirely different level as well as pave the way for new markets and technologies.

Boy was I right! Just look at what Apple has done with the launch of its iPad. It’s not only flipped computing on its head by eating into PC laptop market share but has also brought touch screen computing into homes of senior citizens as well as businesses both small and large.

And, the innovation hasn’t just stopped with Apple and the iPad. More and more companies are jumping onboard to compete with Apple which will only push screen technology to new heights. Case in point, RIM just recently answered the call by announcing their new tablet called the PlayBook.

So, while some competitors try to emulate the innovation coming from 1 Infinite Loop, others conceptualize what our future will look like as screen technology evolves.

To appreciate what I’m referring to, take a look at the following video:

To be honest, I’d absolutely love to see their conceptualizations become reality. However, it’d still be a tough sale for me if it wasn’t either built within Apple’s iOS or some form of cloud technology.

Question: Are you using screen technology in your chiropractic practice? If so, what device and software do you use?

Yes but will it do laundry? and.. it is still not as fun as curling up on the couch in front of the fireplace with the newspaper’s daily crossword and a pen :) It’s cool, convenient and chic…it’s just not cozy.
However…Star Trek fans always knew there would come a day when they would be using Captain Kirk’s toys; how far away are we from…beaming your kids to school and soccer practice! LOL!

    • Hmm, I’m not sure that it’ll do laundry but I could get used to using it in front of my fireplace! Plus, if I want cozy, I snuggle with my wife. Now that’s cozy! :-)

Thanks, as always, for your input! I can always count on you to liven things up within the comments section. ;-)

The iPad is a game changer. We are looking for apps to aid patient education in the report of findings. We can’t find any decent ones. I am working with the British Chiropactic Association to improved digital communication and we are looking at developing a chiro specific app. I want it to be interactive, informative and accurate. Most of the medical apps out there are rehashed anatomy content or drug calculation tables. I hope we can do better.

Anyone got any other ideas they would like see in such an app?

    • I agree with you, Matt. That’s why I’ve been studying Objective-C, Xcode, and Cocoa over the last few months like a madman. The chiropractic profession needs quality apps for both the iPhone and iPad. And, I thought, if no one else is going to do it, why not me?

Regarding ideas, I’ve got many. However, most are saved within mindmaps and haven’t been written to code yet. If you follow Next Generation Chiropractor, then you’ll hear about them in the near future.

Keep me posted on the outcome of your project!
