In my last post, I introduced 6 Facebook strategies every chiropractor should know. The fifth strategy on the list was having an Engagement Strategy.
Even though engagement is an essential part, I don’t want you to think that it should only happen on Facebook. It should also happen on Twitter, Linkedin, YouTube, and your chiropractic blog.
Why your blog?
Because your blog should be the center of all your online marketing endeavors. By leveraging the power of social media you’ll not only be able to drive prospects back to your blog but also be able capture their email addresses for future communication and marketing.
With that in mind, you should also make it easy for readers to share your content among social sites. Just by adding a couple of plugins to your site, viral content becomes more of a reality instead of a distant dream.
What plugins do I recommend?
Digg Digg
The most pimped out plugin that hovers next to your content when readers scroll is Digg Digg.
This plugin looks amazingly similar to the ones used on sites like Mashable and offers a myriad of options for full customization.
For example, on Next Generation Chiropractor I use the Floating Button Configuration with the Google +1, Linkedin, Twitter, Facebook Like (XFBML), Delicious, StumpleUpon, eMail, and Print options enabled.
Here’s what it looks like when someone lands on a particular blog post:

To download this plugin, simply visit Mkyong.com.
WP Facebook Like
WP Facebook Like makes it easy to integrate the Facebook Like button. Choose to automatically append the button before or after the content, use a shortcode, or use a template tag to place the button where ever you want.
I prefer to integrate this plugin at the end of each blog post. I also select both the Like button as well as the newer Send button.
Here’s what it looks like at the end of each blog post:

To download this plugin, simply visit the WordPress Plugin Directory.
Installation Instructions
- To install either plugin, simply login to the backend of your WordPress site, click on Plugins, and then Add New. From there, simply search for either plugin by entering its name in the Search Plugins field.
Once you find what you’re looking for, click Install.
If your blog was setup correctly and you have administrator privileges to your blog, the plugin should upload and install without a hitch.
Once it finishes uploading, simply activate the plugin and start customizing it to fit the style you’re looking for.
All-in-all, your blog should have some tools handy for easy sharing. If you aren’t taking advantage of them, then you truly are missing the boat with engagement and your content’s ability to spread further than your own domain.
Question: Are you using either one of these plugins? If not, which ones do you prefer?
Let us know by leaving your thoughts in the {comments} section below.

Dr. MacNamara,
Thanks for the great post on how to install those two plugins. For the Digg Digg plugin how did you get it so the vertical floating column is on the left side of your blog and not actually in the blog post itself. When I chose the left float for the various buttons it put the vertical column on the left side of my actual blog post not on the left side of the main column. Thanks again for your help. I also figured out that you could do the same thing for the Facebook Like button by putting the code in the Easy Hook section of Headway and then choose where you wanted it to show up.
My pleasure, Dr. Sullivan!
Regarding your question, first make sure you’ve enabled the floating display.
Next, under “1. Display Configuration”, make sure it says that buttons are displayed in vertical order with the buttons displayed in posts only.
For “2. Buttons Selection”, make sure you’ve got both the Ajax Floating as well as the Lazy Loading enabled for the buttons you wish to use.
Obviously, save your changes, empty the cache of your browser (see here … http://www.wikihow.com/Clear-Your-Browser's-Cache), and refresh the page that the post resides on.
That should do it!
Thanks Dr. MacNamara for the help. But I am still getting it displayed in the left hand side of the post. I clicked vertical, in post, for #2 the options are left float, right float, before or after content. I clicked left float and then clicked lazy loading. Any other suggestions and also there was no email or print button to choose from in the menu. Thanks again.
It sounds like you haven’t enabled certain features of the plugin. Since I did some tech support for you recently, I’ll login to the backend of your site and check it out. Stay tuned!
Awesome post Doc,
Love this plug in. Thanks for heads up
