How to Categorize and Tag Your Chiropractic Blog Post

In my last post I explained that over the next few weeks I’ve decided to concentrate on writing very basic “how to” blog posts associated with the art of blogging and inbound marketing. Today, I’d like to continue where I left off by covering another basic but equally important topic — How to Categorize and Tag Your Chiropractic Blog Post.

But, before I walk you through the steps, let’s look at a few definitions that explain what categories and tags are in association with blogging.

The WordPress glossary defines a Category as follows:

Each post in WordPress is filed under a category. Thoughtful categorization allows posts to be grouped with others of similar content and aids in the navigation of a site.

And, here’s how WordPress defines a Tag:

A tag is a keyword which describes all or part of a Post. Think of it like a Category, but smaller in scope. A post may have several tags, many of which relate to it only peripherally. Like Categories, Tags are usually linked to a page which shows all posts having the same tag. Unlike Categories, Tags can be created on-the-fly, by simply typing them into the tag field.
Tags can also be displayed in “clouds” which show large numbers of Tags in various sizes, colors, etc. This allows for a sort of total perspective on the blog, allowing people to see the sort of things your blog is about most.
Many people confuse Tags and Categories, but the difference is easy: Categories generally don’t change often, while your Tags usually change with every Post.

One of the easiest ways to generate Tags for your chiropractic blog posts is by using Scribe.

As the following screen shot demonstrates, Scribe automagically ;-) generates relevant tags from your chiropractic content which can then be easily copied and pasted into the tags section of each blog post:

In closing, here’s an excellent video tutorial that not only explains the difference between tags and categories but also shows you how to include them in each chiropractic blog post you write:

Question: Do you waste valuable time trying to figure out what specific tags should be included in each blog post? If so, have you tried Scribe yet? If so, how are you enjoying it?

  1. Scribe SEO is the best plugin for SEO. Saves you tons of time and it does the job. A must have for every blogger. Great post, Doc!

  2. Dr. Michael Beck says:

Categories can really help your SEO, if done right. Thanks for teaching other chiropractors about this small, yet very useful tip.

    • I appreciate your feedback, Dr. Beck. And, you’re correct! Even though this it’s a small tip, it is useful for chiropractors just starting out in the world of blogging.

By the way, when are you going to get your photo linked to your avatar for comments? Do I need to do a blog post on how to set that up, too? :-)

  3. Aaron Gaily says:

Thanks Doc. Great post about the tags/categories. Still learning.
