For beginning bloggers, some of the simplest things may seem like the hardest. Take, for example, hyperlinking text within your chiropractic blog posts.

If you’re not familiar with that term, that’s okay. Just understand that if you use the Internet, then you’re using hyperlinks to navigate from one page to the next or from one website to the next. In other words, hyperlinking allows one to reference other webpages via a clickable link.

So, for beginning bloggers, how is this accomplished within the WordPress dashboard?

Very easily by following the example illustrated in the image below:

The above method used the Visual Editor. However, you can also use the HTML Editor to accomplish the same thing. Matter of fact, I rarely use the Visual Editor since I prefer to code things in HTML. But, for the beginner, the above approach is simple, accomplishes the task at hand, and gets one started with the basics of hyperlinking.

Testing my link Chiropractic Peoria IL

  2. When I was a beginner blogger this would have been really helpful. The other point I would add is to make the hyperlink text specific for the keyword(s) you are after.

Example: Click here to contact us (here hyperlinked)
    vs
Contact us at Colorado Springs Chiropractor for more information today! (Colorado Springs Chiropractor hyperlinked) or something to that effect…

Google associates the hypertext link url with the hypertext text! Do you want to be ranked for “here” or “your market keywords!”

Thanks for the post Dr. Patrick!

    • Thanks for the comment and insight, Dr. Leusden. Both are appreciated!

And, you are correct that using keyword-rich text within the hyperlink generates more SEO juice. However, don’t get carried away. Remember, you’re writing for readers not necessarily search engines.

For example, the above post is 100% search engine optimized for all the major search engines. Even though one of my links is very keyword-rich, it also provides value to the reader on what it is I’m referring to. But later in the article I also use the word “HERE” to generate more response from the reader.

So, it’s a balancing act. Just remember that in the long run, readers are more important than search since they’re the ones we’re writing to.

  3. Valuable insight on the keyword-rich text in the above response. Thanks, Dr. MacNamara.
